Household Tips
Saving Energy can save you Money! Try these easy, energy saving tips:
- When it’s time to change the clocks - replace the batteries in smoke detectors and CO detectors.
- Installing programmable thermostats can save up to 10% on heating cost.
- Dirty air filters block air flow and increase energy cost.
- If you suspect the air conditioning system is not cooling properly, have it checked promptly. A unit that is having operational problems can cause extremely high bills.
- Have heating and cooling system checked annually. Regular check-ups will help to maximize the life expectancy of your system; unfortunately even the best maintenance won’t prevent normal wear and tear.
- Install a CO monitor
- Lower the thermostat on the water heater - do not go below 120 degrees or 140 degrees if there is a dishwasher.
- A build up of lint in the dryer vent can be a fire hazard. It can also damage and cause the dryer element to burn out before its time. Blockage can also lengthen drying time thus increasing electricity and/or gas use.
Regular Maintenance Will:
- Provide longer lasting equipment
- Reduce utility bills
- Reduce repairs
- Provide a more comfortable indoor environment
- Protect your investment
